Teaching prepositions of place in primary level

To teach prepositions of place in primary level teachers need to make a review of some classroom objects like: sharpener, desk, chair, book, eraser, rule, pencil case, etc .In order to catch the students attention teacher has to show pictures about the vocabulary or use realia.

Then teacher has to put some classroom objects knew by the students in different places and ask them where is located each object. Most of the students will answer in spanich and teacher has to reproduce the words in English. in order to the students recognize the prepositions in English Through listening to the teacher.Then through a game teacher asks some students to answer where each object is located to know if they understood. Then teacher copies on the board the vocabulary of prepositions and make the whole class repeat each preposition orally. After that teacher choose some students and make them repeat individually.

To be sure that students got the idea teacher will present  a list of new vocabulary through pictures or just a review (it depends of the case) in order to the students can do some exercises related with the topic. The students will write some sentences related with the pictures showed in the worksheet and when they finish teacher will select some students to share their answers with the whole class.

  • Ss listen to T who will read a reading about five speakers who are talking about funeral traditions and Ss will take notes.
  • T asks What country do you think each speaker is from? Why?
  • Ss will discuss their answers in pairs.                                          
  • T asks for volunteers to answer the question and will ask the whole class Do you agree?
  • Ss listen again to answer another question.

Which speaker mentions these points?  and the whole class will answer.

  • T will write the answers on the board.

  • T asks Ss the meaning of some verbs mentioned before in the reading such “pass away” and “stick around” and will ask What do the verbs have in common?
  • Ss will discuss their answers in group of 3 people (Ss can use the computer).
